When everything is new and unknown, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. There is a documented increase in anxiety in children, with many cases of kids suffering from disorders like ADHD. Young children need continuous guidance to navigate through this world. Of course, they look up to their parents. But with the fast-paced ways of today, parents may be too busy to attend to the sensitivity of their children. Kids yoga was designed to give children a safe place to reflect, as well as cater to their need for physical activity. There is also an emphasis on teaching them how to deal with various sensations in the body, giving them proper tools to be able to handle them.

History of Kids Yoga

Yoga for children was born in the West, created by yoga instructors with a passion for the practice. In recent years, a growing number of studies have revealed the massive benefits that come from regular exercise. Regardless of the person’s age or level of fitness, yoga has something to offer to everyone. Parents wanted to apply the same methods of dealing with life’s stresses to their children. And so, kids yoga was born! With added pressures that come from social media, this special practice was created to give children an opportunity to deal with their emotions and pressure, to show them that their feelings are normal. Kids yoga has the added emphasis on exercise, to counteract the world’s descend into unhealthy lifestyles and habits.

Benefits of Kids Yoga

Emotions are tough for adults, so imagine dealing with all the new feelings for the first time! Kids yoga gives children a reliable way to get in touch with their emotions and understand where they are coming from. Acknowledging and understanding their feelings and thoughts, as well as realizing they are normal, gives children confidence in themselves that can work wonders during their years of development.  Furthermore, yoga teaches children the importance of self-care and breath control. On top of giving children the tools to cope, yoga also gives them a chance to do a little exercise. Kids yoga can be fun for children, but they are not the only ones who benefit from it! Sign your child up for a yoga class and you’ll be amazed how well they develop, mentally and physically.
